Good News for OBX Bridges!

: Chicahauk will have a new bridge around the first of March.

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority finally published their Environmental Impact Study for the new mid-Currituck bridge. This Project has been talked about and worked on for more than twenty years. Having the Impact Study completed is a big step towards the start of construction.

Southern Shores is also getting a new bridge linking Chicahauk with the Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Marketplace Shopping Center area. This bridge will increase the size boat that can travel through the canal here.

Hurricane Irene impacted sales last month. Page 3 of the report shows a significant reduction in sales agreements compared to August of 2010. Despite this bad weather event, there was still plenty of good news to report.

Hurricane Irene Review

Hurricane Irene hit some areas of the Outer Banks worse than others on August 29. The northern beaches from Nags Head to Corolla fared relatively well while the sounds side areas and Hatteras Island suffered some signficant damage. We have a few more weeks to go before the hurricane season begins to really wind down. Hopefully this is the worst of it for this year.

Duck has recently finished their board walk. You could spend an entire afternoon between all the shops along the board walk and viewing nature along the sound. Here’s a link to a video.
